| Greetings
new and returning buckeyes! On behalf of the
entire staff of Buckeye TV, I would like to
welcome Ohio State students to campus for fall
2005. I hope everyone is looking forward to
the fall and all it entails: football season,
catching up with friends we haven't seen in
months, and moving closer to the inevitable
graduation and college degree. Various members
of Buckeye TV's staff have been working all
summer in order to ensure your student television
station is ready to launch this fall
in style. I won't bore you with the details,
but these are just a few of the changes in place
here at Buckeye TV for this fall:
Engineering
has been hard at work this summer working
on back-end software and hardware projects
for the station. These include upgrades to
the software that drives Buckeye TV, additions
such as a weather update during commercial
breaks, and a new randomized music video scheduler.
All of these upgrades will ensure that Buckeye
TV is able to function as close to a professional
television operation as we can.
- Programming
for this fall includes our best lineup yet.
Old favorites such as Buckeye Backtalk, Buckeye
News Weekly, and x3i, are being supplemented
by exciting new productions.
In sports, Buckeye TV will build from its
success in the spring by featuring a national
Sports highlight and analysis show, as well
as a Football
analysis and discussion show. Music on Campus,
your source for music news in the past, will
feature a revitalized format that features
local bands, local music, and other features
on Columbus and OSU-area music. MoC will also
serve to introduce you to the latest music
videos from various artists. Buckeye TV will
be adding programming throughout the fall
that will feature your fellow Ohio State students
at their finest.
- Opportunities:
Buckeye TV is constantly expanding ways for
students to get involved with the station's
daily operations. Students that wish to become
involved with Buckeye TV will receive class
credit for their work. Additionally, students
that wish to receive a sample of the different
departments at Buckeye TV and what goes on
in each will be able to enroll in the Introduction
to Buckeye TV course, a new offering for the
station this fall that allows them to observe
and contribute to each department at the station,
and then decide which area they would like
to continue in.
- But
by far the biggest news of
the fall for Buckeye TV is that your student
television station is now an academically
supported laboratory in the Department of
Theater, College of the Arts. What does this
mean? Well among other things, this means
the station is now serving as laboratory for
students wishing to gain experience in the
broadcast media industry. New courses will
be introduced that will allow students to
take knowledge learned in the classroom and
on internships, and apply that to Buckeye
TV, receiving class credit for their efforts.
Buckeye TV will also now be eligible for several
new sources of funding, which will serve to
enhance our on-air product and create programming
that all OSU students can be proud of.
- Finally,
Buckeye TV is a charter member
of the Open Student Television Network, OSTN.
This new student-supported national television
network will be launching in fall 2005 on
Buckeye TV – keep your eyes peeled for the
latest in national programming and the best
of college student television stations all
around the country.
This
promises to be a great year for Buckeye TV.
On behalf of the
station and its staff, I would like to invite
each and every one of you to be a part of it.
Here's to a great fall season! |
